Versions and Platforms
- All NTSC versions are permitted. This includes both US versions (regular All-Stars cartridge and the one that includes SMW) and the Japanese version (Super Mario Collection). The Japansese version is a few seconds faster due to the transition from the title screen to the game select screen.
- SNES/SFC, Emulator (most will be permitted except for ZSNES) and Wii version that comes on a disc are permitted. Be aware that the Wii runs at a slower framerate.
Rules
- You must join the discord server to participate. If you are not joined to the discord server when registration closes, you will be dropped from the tournament.
- The time frame for each round will typically be 7 days for the first few rounds. Deadlines will be strict and minimal exceptions will be granted to prevent delays for everyone else.
- You are responsible to communicate with your opponent to schedule a time for your race. Once a time is agreed, please have ONE of the participants schedule it on the SG registration page (provided in Discord).
- If you are not reasonably sure that you can compete for your duration of the tournament, please refrain from joining. Anything can happen in life, but if you're expecting something that would keep you away for an extended period of time rendering you unable to complete your match, please refrain from joining.
- All matches must be https://racetime.gg . If you have not used this platform before, please read the documentation on their website and familiarize yourself with how racing on there works. It's not fair for everyone else when someone delays the race for 30 minutes trying to figure everything out spur of the moment.
- All matches must be streamed. Even if all you have is a webcam pointed at a TV, that will work. It is also highly recommended that you local record in case you do have internet issues during your match.
- This category is All Four Any% in which you complete any% categories for all four of the games. SMB1: Any%, SMB:TLL: Any% 8-4, SMB2(USA): Any% S+Q, SMB3: Any% No Wrong Warp.
- You may use continues to restart a world if you game over.
- You will need to coordinate with your opponent and agree upon a specific order that both of you will play the games. From a viewer and commentary perspective, it's difficult to tell who is ahead if the games are being played in a different order between the opponents. If an agreement cannot be made between the two opponents, then the games must be played in chronological order (SMB1, SMB2J (Lost Levels), SMB2 (USA), SMB3).
Tournament Structure
This is a two stage tournament.
The first stage is a Group Stage (Round Robin) in which you will be randomly sorted into a group with other players which you will race. If you play well enough in this stage you will advance to the second stage.
The second stage is a single elimination bracket. Players will be seeded based on their average race times from the group stage.
Restream
- Your match may be restreamed on the SpeedGaming or SMASCommunity channels side by side with your opponent. Please mute all sounds except for the game itself. No external music, mic, or alerts please.
Additional information is available in the Discord channels once you join.
