Format: This tournament will be a standard single-elimination best of 3 bracket hosted at https://challonge.com/GTC2024.

All announcements and communications pertaining to the tournament will take place at the GT Classic Discord, which you can join at https://gtclassic.spazer.link/

Qualifying/Seeding:

- This tournament will have an open qualifier period from DATE TBD to January 7th at 11:59pm EST.

- Runners may submit any GT Classic run they complete during the qualifier period to http://qualifier.spazer.link. Only a runner's best submitted time will be used for seeding.

- All submitted runs must be done during the qualifier period. Runners may NOT submit runs done before the qualifier period.

- There is no limit on the amount of times runners may submit the form.

- Admins will manually update the tournament sheet with submitted times as racers submit them. As such, these updates will not be instant, but the sheet should be updated with new times within roughly a day of submission. "Race submission form: http://submit.spazer.link

Format:

- This tournament will be a single elimination bracket, with all matches being a best-of-3 series.

- The bracket will be seeded using each runner's best time submitted during the qualifier period. The bracket will use standard reverse seeding (1 vs 32, 2 vs 31, 3 vs 30, etc.)

Rules:

- Standard GT Classic rules apply (as posted at https://www.speedrun.com/supermetroid#GT_Code)

- All races will use racetime.gg, therefore racetime.gg's rules apply (found at https://racetime.gg/about/rules)

- Vanilla SM only, no ROM modifications allowed; including sprites, palettes, music, etc.

- All races must be streamed live on Twitch.

- Runners must join the GT Classic Discord server for all tourney communication: https://discord.gg/nPbu2qN

- By entering this tournament, runners grant permission for their game feed to be restreamed and archived on Twitch/YouTube

- If a race is too close to call definitively, a frame count will be done by hand. If a race is declared to be a tie after a frame count, the result will be settled with another race."

Signups:

- Post a message in the #tourney-signups channel of the GT Classic Discord to sign up.

- The message should include your preferred name (pronunciation and/or pronouns optional), a link to your Twitch channel, and your racetime.gg username.

- Signups are open until the channel is locked on January 7th, 11:59pm EST.

- Note: even if you sign up in #tourney-signups, runners will not be put into the bracket until they have submitted their first qualifier time on the qualifier form.

Restreaming:

- This tournament will have restreamers that stream to the GT Classic twitch channel. (https://twitch.tv/gtclassic)

- Volunteers are welcome to restream any tournament races, but race scheduling will always prioritize the racer's needs.

- Contact an organizer if you're interested in volunteering for restreaming or commentary.

Scheduling:

- Racers should coordinate with their opponents to schedule their races as they are indicated on the bracket.

- Match times must be submitted by only one of the runners of each match using the official race submission form: http://submit.spazer.link/

- Races do not need to be played back to back, but runners are allowed to do so if they desire.

- Matches must be scheduled and started within 10 days from the time the match becomes available.

- If a match cannot be scheduled and started within 10 days, a reason must be communicated with the organizers before the end of the 10 days and organizer approval must be given for a time extension.

- Although unlikely, organizers may (at their discretion) issue a forfeit to a runner or runners who have not gotten organizer approval for an extension, or for any other unacceptable situations determined by the organizers.

- Since restreams can take place later, races can take place at any time.

- Tiebreaker races can proceed immediately or be rescheduled (racers decide).

Prizes:

- Finalists and tournament champions will have their name hoisted at the top of the userlist in the GT Classic Discord server.
