The inaugural singles knockout pool competition for Cambridge University. Open to all players!
The final will be a best-of-13 match and will take place at the CSC on Friday 9th March! Good luck Tom and Tarun!
(0-0 wins denote walkovers.)
Deadlines for playing matches:
Round 1: 27th November (Week 7)
Round 2: 29th January (Week 2)
Round 3: 12th February (Week 4)
Quarter-finals: 26th February (Week 6)
Semi-finals: 14th March (Week 8)
The final will be the same day as the league and Cuppers finals, in Easter Term.
IMPORTANT: While this tournament is free to enter, pool tables are, sadly, on the whole, not free to use. Please deal with this with an element of maturity. Players should do their best to SPLIT the cost of the match, as much as possible.
This is a single elimination tournament from the beginning. Seeds (i.e. the first round) will be randomised.
Before the quarter-finals, matches will be best of 5 frames. Quarter-finals and semi-finals will be best of 9 frames. The final will be played over at least 9 frames; this will be decided closer to its occurence.
Matches are to be played to the same rules used in the college leagues, detailed in Parts 1 and 2 of this web page:
http://www.cupc.co.uk/college/leaguerules.php
Finals are to be played in Easter term; for the rest of the tournament, a deadline for the completion of each round will be set at the start of the tournament. Players should do their best to accommodate each other's busy schedules and agree a time and venue suitable for both parties. If no consensus can be made on when to play the match, the home player (the player shown on top in the bracket) should offer the away player three reasonable options of a date, time and venue at which to play, giving 48 hours' notice in each case. The away player must select one of these or risk forfeiting the match. The League Secretary has the right to award walkovers against players who are unhelpful or unresponsive towards their opponent.
Begin matches with a coin toss (or lag, if both players prefer) to decide who breaks first. It is not necessary to play all the frames; as soon as a winner is decided, the match may end.
After the match, the winner should upload the score (in frames won/lost) on Challonge within 24 hours. The loser should check the score is correct and contact the League Secretary if a mistake has been made.
Finally, common sense and good sportsmanship should reign above all. These rules were written not by a lawyer but a humble mathmo. The League Secretary reserves the right to alter these rules, and enforce any decision he sees fit, including an overriding of the rules. If any clarification is needed at any time, even during a match, players are welcome to text or call the League Secretary (Tom) on 07760 125353, or to email [email protected].
Have fun, and good luck!
