This is a Metroid Fusion 100% tournament, organized for summer 2024.

1. General Provisions

  1. The administrators of the tournament may make rulings in case there is a situation not covered in the rules.
  2. The administrators, in exceptional circumstances, may make changes to these rules if they feel it produces a more fair outcome.
  3. If a player disagrees on an administrator’s ruling, they may appeal the result to the other administrators. The decision of the appeal is final.
  • All communication by the administrators are done via Discord. Tournament announcements and race communications in particular are done in the Metroid Fusion Speedrunning Discord: https://discord.com/invite/fFdcuay .

2. The Game

  1. This is a race of Metroid Fusion. Racers are to play the original GameBoy Advance version of the game in Japanese.
  2. If both racers agree before a race, they may play a different version of the game (different language or different system) as long as they both play the same version.
  3. Emulators are acceptable, so long as they are deemed sufficiently accurate and safe to use by the admin team. Visual Boy Advance currently has some dubiousness, and is not accepted for this tournament.
  4. The category is “100%” as outlined in the rules on https://www.speedrun.com/fusion?h=100-normal&x=rklzg82n-5lye0q98.1gne22nl . Though spelled out in the rules, it should be emphasized that runners are to play on Normal difficulty.
  5. Racers may save during a race, but are not required to. In the event that a racer gets a game over during a race, they may only continue from a save made during this race. No other prepared backup saves may be used during the tournament.

3. Races

  1. Each player faces off 1v1 against each other player in their respective group, to determine the top 2 from each group to play in a single elimination bracket.
  2. All races use racetime.gg. In addition, all racers are required to stream to twitch. As matches are frequently restreamed through Speedgaming, racers are recommended to have twitch alerts and all sources of sound other than the game itself off.
  3. A bracket race’s result is primarily determined by racetime.gg placement. If the racers finish inside 15 seconds of each other, or there is a clear disparity from racetime and actual finish time, then the administrators audit the results to get a more accurate finish time, to the best of their abilities.
  4. If a racer is found to be missing items at the end of their run, the player having the higher completion percentage upon finish is the victor. If both missed an equal number of items, the result is based on the faster finish time.
  5. A racer may forfeit a race at any time before the resolution of the race. The remaining racer is advised to continue playing, as tech issues occasionally cause accidental forfeits to occur. In the event the remaining racer must also forfeit for any reason, the admins may decide the victor based on their progress in the run at their time of forfeiture.
  6. Should there be any technical issue during the race preventing a participant from continuing, or losing a significant portion of recorded footage, it is to be treated as a forfeit.
  7. After a race, racers are encouraged, but not by any means required, to join the commentators to discuss the match. Please respect the Speedgaming volunteers' time and try not to deviate too much off topic.

4. Scheduling

  1. Each player shall race at least once every seven days.
  2. The racers are required to schedule a race among themselves. In the event that a race has not been scheduled for 4 days, an administrator shall reach out to the racers.
  3. Each racer is expected to completely ready to go at the agreed upon start time of the race. Racers are strongly encouraged to start preparing early, and have some buffer time before the race is scheduled to start.
  4. Outside contingencies are to be handled on a case-by-case basis. It should be noted that it is easier for everyone to be flexible if a race is scheduled sooner rather than later.
  5. It is likely that racers may learn their opponent in the next round before the current round concludes. Racers may, and are even encouraged, to reach out to their next-round opponent before the current round concludes, but are discouraged from racing until the Sunday of the round it is supposed to be in.

5. Group and Bracket Stages

  1. This tournament begins as a 4-group round robin, determining the top 2 in each group
  2. These top 2 from each group are then put into a final 8 single elimination bracket.
  3. The losers of the first round of the final 4 bracket face off to decide third place.
  4. Seeding based on pb.

That’s the end of the briefing!
