Setup:

  • Double elimination

  • Winner’s bracket rounds are a best of 3.

  • As these are blind races, any help given through twitch chat or other means will disqualify you from the race.
  • Winner’s bracket: Players will decide who chooses the console for the first round, with the second round being the other player’s choice. Players can also choose full random if they have no console preference.

  • If a winner’s match reaches a 3rd game, the entire database will be queried (with certain consoles omitted), without console selection.

  • Loser’s bracket rounds are a single race, unless the players agree to a best of x.

  • Loser’s rounds are pulled from the database without console selection, even if they are playing more than 1 game in a round.

  • Players will have 2 weeks per winner’s round and 1 week per loser’s round.

  • All top 8 matches will be BO3, including those in the loser’s bracket.

  • Top 8 loser’s matches return to the winner’s bracket selection format.

  • Goals will be decided between the players and can be as short or as long as you’d like.

  • All matches will use the “!gbdb tourney” command to select their game. This will only return a game for one of the consoles below. If the bot selects a game on multiple consoles, refer to the “Platform of Choice” for which version you should be playing.

Redraw reasons (none of these are mandatory, players can still decide they want to go through with it):

  • The game costs money (players can decide if they still want to buy the game if it’s digitally available).

  • The game cannot be emulated or a rom/download cannot be found.

  • The download would take too long for your scheduled match.

  • The players do not speak the language for the game pulled.

Tips for setting goals:

  • Set the goal to "beat the game."
  • Check SRL for existing goals if the game has been raced before and decide on a goal that works for you.
  • Ask someone in Discord to find a longplay or walkthrough and estimate a goal based on how much time you've got.
  • If you're in voice chat with your opponent, start playing the game without a goal set and decide on a goal together as you're playing.
  • For sports games with set lengths: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • Last resort: Give yourselves a certain amount of time to play the game (i.e 1 hour) and compare progress at the end.

You should try your best to make a game work, regardless of how bad it may seem for a race.
