A casual tournament for players who want to do an NSLU Any% tournament.
NSLU SUMMER 2021 TOURNAMENT RULES (as seen on challonge)
Tournament Rules/Format
All matches are best 2/3, including grand finals. Grand finals will also have a bracket reset in effect (the player that gets to grand finals from the losers bracket has to win two sets of best 2/3 while the winner only has to win one set)
The seeding of the tournament is based off of PBs, with better PBs resulting in a better seeding on the leaderboards. Organizers will start organizing players by seed starting on Sunday, July 4th. After that point, if new players join and/or current players update their PB, the organizers will continue adjusting the seeding. You will have until Saturday, July 10th at 11:59PM EST to join the tournament/submit an updated PB for better seeding. If you do get an updated PB, feel free to send a DM to any of the organizers (super64guy#9339, Nivadra#3855, or Uvideo#1457) or in the #general chat of the Discord server (especially if you run on OG because none of the organizers are moderators of the OG game and likely won’t be tracking those leaderboards). If you don’t have a PB time when the tournament starts, you will be ranked bottom seed.
You can set up matches with your opponents in either private DMs or using the #match-planning text channel in the tournament Discord server.
You and your opponent must agree on how to start the match. Generally, SpeedGaming staff like to open an SRC or Racetime room for the players so these methods of starting a race would be preferable, but if there is any reason that neither of these can work, you can have a countdown in one of the text channels of the Discord server.
Race starts from first input on the World map screen and ends when the first person lands the third hit on final Bowser.
In the event of a tie, the players racing can choose one of two options. Option 1: the match can be redone. Option 2: both players receive a point for winning and whoever wins the next race wins the match.
Because of the IRL commitments of the organizers, we would like this tournament to move fairly quickly, ending no later than August 22 if possible. This means that each stage of the bracket (including the Losers bracket) will have about a week to get their matches done, but these timeframes are subject to change. Please check the #announcements tab frequently to see how long you have to schedule your matches for any stage of the tournament. If you have a conflict and cannot get your match done for a certain timeframe, feel free to DM an organizer or leave a message in #general and we will find a time for you to complete your match.
Other Rules/Important Notes
Most people found the tournament registration link through the Discord server, but if you found the tournament link in some other way, please join the Discord server so that you can stay up to date with all the tournament news. Failure to join the Discord server may result in you being dropped from the tournament.
Emulators banned, but both the Wii U and Switch versions are allowed. In a matchup of a Wii U vs Switch runner, the Wii U runner must win by 29 seconds or more in order to claim a win.
It is required to stream your gameplay. If you REALLY cannot stream, message an organizer to work something out.
I will say from experience that if you had to choose between setting up an SRL or setting up a racetime, I would recommend racetime. The setup is much quicker and simpler than SRL in my opinion, and I believe there’s a way to even enter racetime races directly from Livesplit. But do whichever is easier for you :)
Please mute your mic and stream notifications when doing a tournament match. If you would like your audio to not be used, please let organizers know before your match starts.
ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME! This tournament is gonna be pretty chill, we just love to see people improve at the game, and we look forward to seeing the improvements of all the runners in the tournament :)
