The tournament is open by invitation to everyone who
participated in the 2021 Super Mario Bros. 3 Randomizer Tournament, but
did not advance to the bracket stage. The goal of each game is to
complete all 8 worlds, defeating Bowser
at the end without the use of any wrong warps or warp whistles while
enduring the randomization of stage order, enemies, items received, map
locations, and more.
For the complete details of the Super Mario Bros. 3 Randomizer settings, check out the 2021 tournament doc at SMB3 Any% Warpless Randomizer Tournament Details. All Races will be raced on racetime.gg and streaming will be required. Streams will be restreamed with commentary to the SpeedGaming Twitch channels (twitch.tv/SpeedGaming, SpeedGaming2, SpeedGaming3, SpeedGaming4, SpeedGaming5 and SpeedGaming6).
The version of the
randomizer (1.3.4) used may be updated prior to the beginning of the
tournament, but will be static through each stage of the tournament.
Format:
The
challenge cup will be structured similarly to the bracket stage of the
main tournament (single elimination, best two out of three).
Participants will be seeded based on performance in the main tournament,
with win record taking precedence followed by average time of
completion (forfeits will be considered, but they will not be as
impactful as in the main tournament)
Flags:
This year's Challenge Cup will be dubbed 'Mystery Hammer' edition, meaning that with all possible flag choices the Let Hammers Break Locks flags will be set to the random option! You will not know whether hammers break locks until you try it in-game, but it will be consistent across the seed and the result will be the same for both players.
Also similar to group play this year players will be able to modify the format for games 1 and 2 by tweaking the following settings:
-Remove N Game (on or off)
-Level Appearance - All ? (not including forts) (on or off)
This means that there are 4 possible flag settings that can be chosen for both games:
AVP8K6GS4 (N cards enabled, no ?s)
306U!EZ5J4 (N cards enabled, with ?s)
17BF1UG114 (N cards disabled, no ?s)
3WMKHP8PS4 (N cards disabled, with ?s)
If a game 3 is necessary, option 3 above (17BF1UG114) will be used (N cards disabled, no ?s).
Flag choices
will be entered into the match submission form when scheduling races (similar to group play this year) and confirmed by the organizers
(comms/restreamer) prior to rolling the seed for each game. Once submitted they may not be changed. The order in which the chosen flags are played will be decided between the players in racetime.gg chat. If an order cannot be agreed upon between the players the decision will default to the player with the higher seed. To eliminate confusion, It is important that
the flags are communicated clearly to both players before each
game starts.
