The tournament is open by invitation to everyone who participated in the 2022 Super Mario Bros. 3 Randomizer Tournament, but did not advance to the bracket stage. The goal of each game is to complete all 8 worlds, defeating Bowser at the end without the use of any wrong warps or warp whistles while enduring the randomization of stage order, enemies, items received, map locations, and more.

Streams will be restreamed with commentary to the SpeedGaming Twitch channels.

The version of the randomizer (1.3.4) used may be updated prior to the beginning of the tournament, but will be static through each stage of the tournament.

Format:

The challenge cup will be structured similarly to the bracket stage of the main tournament (single elimination, best two out of three). Participants will be seeded based on performance in the main tournament, with win record taking precedence followed by average time of completion (factoring in forfeits appropriately)

Flags:

Similar to the Main bracket this year, Challenge Cup matches will consist of the players choosing from a series of preset flags. There are 12 total combinations in all, each adjusting the following settings:

-Whether Hammers break Locks in addition to Rocks (Yes, No, or Mystery)

-Whether Normal Levels (and Hands) are converted into ? Tiles (Forts are unchanged)

-Whether the N card game is included

Flag choices will be communicated by the players and tourney admins in racetime.gg chat prior to rolling the seed for each game. Players 1 and 2 will decide the flags for games 1 and 2, respectively. If a game 3 is needed to determine a winner, the flags will default to the Tourney Bracket - All Questions (minus forts) format (3WMG7XECA4). To eliminate confusion, It is important that the flags are communicated clearly to both players before each game starts.
