We would like to present Sonic 2 [GEN] runners with a new competitive event: Sonic 2 tournament winter edition.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released on November 21 1992, so we thought it would be great to celebrate the game's 28th birthday with a tournament! It will run on the weekend of its birthday, Nov 21-22 from 8-8 EST (New York time). This tournament will be hosted on the Twitch channel of the event's creator, Zaxon. https://twitch.tv/zaxon96
If you're looking to participate as a racer or commentator or you'd like to go the extra mile and help restream, sign up today. You're free to sign up for as many of these as you want. If you missed out on the first Sonic 2 tournament, we'd love to have you.
We'll do our best with your availability to make sure you can comfortably fit into the schedule. Remember that this is a tournament, so it might last a while!
Rules will mirror speedrun.com rules: every race will be timed in IGT (in game time) and the category will be any%/beat the game. For this specific tournament, SONIC OR KNUCKLES is allowed. Yeah, that's right. We could actually see Sonic and Knuckles runners face off against each other. These characters' optimized runs are similar in length, so we feel like this adds an interesting element to the tournament.
Lastly, there's a prize pool! Any amount of money that gets donated to the stream link during the tournament will all go to the first place winner and only the first place winner, so be on your game.
